Directions for installing and setting up the SpeechMike
Do notplug in the SpeechMike before you install the drivers. Insert the SpeechMike CD in the drive and install the drivers and program files. Reboot the computer, then plug in the SpeechMike.
Take this file, NatSpeak.scm, right click on the link and left click on Save Target As. Then save the file into the folder C:\Program Files\Philips Speech\SpeechMike. Newer models might be in: C:\Program Files\Philips\Philips Speech\SpeechMike or something close. In any case, find where the other scm files are and put the NatSpeak.scm file in that same folder.
Create a shortcut of the SpeechMike Control Application icon and place the shortcut in the Start Up folder.
One needs to have the SpeechMikeControl Application running to use the SpeechMike buttons. I suggest that you have it minimized (so you don’t see it). To set it up so the Control Application is minimized each time the computer boots up, do the following: In the Startup folder right click on the Control Application, then left click on Properties. At the end of the Target line of text put a space then type /h then click OK. Next to Run use the drop down and choose Minimized.
Inside the SpeechMikeControl Application click on the Open Folder icon and select NatSpeak.scm. This is a scheme that assigns the top six buttons the following functions:
EOL Record INS/OVWR
Beginning of Line Mic On/Off End of Line
Rewind Play/Stop FastForward
Backspace End Tab
There are two buttons under the SpeechMike. The lower button acts as a Left-Mouse Click. The upper button is programmed to turn on the microphone (the microphone on/off button will work once Dragon NaturallySpeaking is setup–keep reading).
Very Important: exit the Control Application dialog box using the Exit button not the red X close button. The process of completely closing the application with the NatSpeak.scm scheme open will automatically open the NatSpeak.scm scheme upon subsequent startups.
Start Up Dragon NaturallySpeaking From the Dragon NaturallySpeaking toolbar, Click on Tools then on Options, Click on the HotKeys tab, Click on button for Microphone On/Off and press F11 key (F11 appears in the box). Click on OK and OK again.
Shut down NaturallySpeaking and all open programs. Reboot the computer. The SpeechMike Control program should now be running but minimized.
Look under the SpeechMike unit. It is worth repeating, there are two buttons, the trigger button has a “down” action, while the microphone toggle button has an “up” action. The trigger button acts as a left mouse click. The toggle button above the trigger will turn the microphone on and off.
Big trigger = Left mouse click Move the trackball mouse around and click this button to insert the cursor where the mouse is.
Small upper toggle = Microphone On/Off With Dragon running use this button to turn the microphone on and off. Be sure to turn the microphone off when not dictating.
The other buttons on top of the SpeechMike are programmed and ready to work in a document. The red record button is a second button that will turn the microphone on or off. The rewind button acts as a backspace. See the button map above for how the other buttons are assigned.
